Moonlight Shadow (2021)
“Moonlight Shadow” (2021), directed by Edmund Yeo, is a Japanese drama that delves into themes of love, loss, and the supernatural. The narrative follows Satsuki (Nana Komatsu), who is devastated by the sudden death of her boyfriend, Hitoshi (Hio Miyazawa). Unable to overcome her grief, Satsuki becomes fixated on the “Moonlight Shadow” phenomenon—a mystical event that purportedly allows individuals to reunite with deceased loved ones during the full moon. As she grapples with her sorrow, Satsuki encounters Urara (Asami Usuda), a mysterious woman who may hold the key to her healing. The film is an adaptation of Banana Yoshimoto’s short story from her collection “Kitchen.”
