“Blast Beat” (2020) follows the story of a young Colombian immigrant, Rafa, living in the U.S. with his family. As he navigates high school life and the challenges of fitting into a new culture, Rafa dreams of becoming a successful physicist while secretly harboring his passion for heavy metal music. His father, struggling to adapt to the American lifestyle, disapproves of Rafa’s non-academic interests. Torn between his love for music and his father’s expectations, Rafa must choose his path to pursue a future where he can stay true to himself.
